Creative Apprenticeships

The National Arts Learning Network is working with South East London Lifelong Learning Network (SELLLN) to develop progression pathways to higher education for apprentices completing the level 3 Apprenticeships in the London area. The Creative and Cultural Skills Sector Skills Council have developed 6 apprenticeships that are delivered at level 2 and level 3 and recruitment to these apprenticeships started in 2008. This work aims to set up progression pathways from these apprenticeships and give apprentices who are interested in progressing to level 4 provision the skills they need to study successfully at this level.

“Progress to HE” module

SELLN are funding Goldsmiths, University of London to develop the “Progress to HE” module which aims to develop academic skills for students wishing to progress to HE in the context of personal and professional development in the creative industries. The project at Goldsmiths will also explore appropriate models of delivery based on funding and student take up and location. The module will have academic credit attached and is planned for delivery in September 2009.

Next steps

The initial mapping of the apprenticeship programme onto level 4 provision including FdAs BAs and CPD provision at London based HEIs has taken place. We are now working with providers to:

  • Identify students who may be interested in progressing to higher education
  • Explore models for where and when the “Progress to HE” module can be delivered.
  • Identify IAG needs of students and explore ways of meeting these.
  • Develop progression agreements that facilitate progression from apprenticeships and identified HE provision.
