Bridging

The aim of this project is to develop the curriculum to accommodate learners from vocational pathways at key transition points:

• Further Education to Higher Education
• Foundation degree to BA(Hons)

In order to do this, the project has concentrated on:

• Reviewing current bridging provision across the NALN network in order to identify good practice nationally

• Researching student/staff perceptions and effectiveness of bridging programmes at selected NALN institutions in order to inform new developments

• Refining current bridging provision and identify key strategies, including different delivery modes, which will enhance student understanding and expectations across the differing levels. It has funded a project involving a one year Preparation for HE programme piloted at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design and Hereford College of Arts.

The 'Bridging' project has published the following reports under the section 'Preparation for HE: Research':

  • 'The Art of Smooth Transition' project
  • 'Blurring the Boundaries' evaluation report

Further materials in the 'Bridging' section will include:

  • The ‘Bridging from FdA onto Honours degrees’ report
  • An online resource of activities and materials used for FE to HE Bridging

Below is a short film about Hereford College of Arts' Bridging Summer School.
